As a neurodivergent ADHD non-binary trans-woman of colour who is also a highly sensitive Indigo child with a side helping of misogyny disguised as inclusion, I support an anti-Zionist late-stage capitalist post-modern fairy dust laden agenda for which you will bend to my will.
Do you know why I can say that? The Canadian Federal Government’s Bill C-16, passed in 2017, guarantees that I can. It amended the Canadian Human Rights Act and the Criminal Code to explicitly include "gender identity" and "gender expression" as protected grounds. I can call myself anything I want. And if you disagree with that, I can take you to court.
Of course, what I am, actually, is a grumpy old white guy. One who has witnessed the rise of feminism from the protests of the Miss America pageants to Roe vs Wade, wide spread birth control giving women agency over their own bodies to the fight for equal pay for equal work.
And all to see it disappear, seemingly in the blink of an eye, by the trans movement. This isn’t really surprising though. Let’s first take a look at the current U.S. administration.
Donald Trump came to power by rejecting established norms:
- Facts don’t matter, only loyalty.
- Institutions have been attacked, such as newspapers, courts, companies and law firms.
- He loaded the Supreme Court with “his own” judges and surrounded himself with sycophants who are there simply to do his bidding.
Of course, he didn’t get re-elected in 2020, so we had a brief respite from him. But he came back, like the bad penny he is, and has doubled down and tripled downed and down-downed his stupidity in his second term.
In fact, no matter what he does, there doesn’t seem to be a bottom. There is no “low” to go, because there’s always something lower. He just keeps drilling down. It doesn’t matter if all of his accusations are simply projections. There is no shame. There can’t be in Trump’s world.
As a spin-off from this, we now have less than one tenth of one percent of the population dictating the terms of life for approximately 50% of the population. I’m talking about trans-women dictating the terms of living for women. How is this similar to Trump?
There are three essential driving forces to the trans movement:
- Biology doesn’t matter, only gender identity.
- Institutions (medicine, law, education) are pressured into compliance.
- The impossible becomes mandatory (cervical examinations for men, workplace protection for the potential for men to become pregnant)
So Trump, and the trans-women movement, share these traits:
- Gaslighting ("You’re a bigot if you don’t accept our reality")
- Institutional capture (media, corporations, governments enforce the narrative)
- Fear of backlash (dissent is punished socially, professionally, or legally)
There is a key difference in both movements though. Trump has push-back by the Democrats, some traditional Republicans and even at times, the courts. Trans-women have no push-back whatsoever. They have support on both sides of the House of Representatives, corporations have gone all-in on the trans-movement and there is no organized resistance from the Left. In fact, it’s likely the reason the Democrats didn’t win in 2024.
How did we get here? You may as well ask how did Trump get re-elected. But let’s take a quick look at where we are.
Trans-women are demanding cervical examinations. For cervical cancer. Even though that’s a biological impossibility. Why do they do this? It’s not about the cervix, it’s about taking an appointment away from a woman who actually needs it and about validating their gender identity even in the face of this absurdity.
In 2023, Australia passed a Sex Discrimination Act that was amended to include “pregnant trans-men”. On the surface, this seems correct, as a trans-man is a biological woman, who can get pregnant. But the protection extends to trans-women too, who cannot get pregnant. Nothing like codifying an identity to reinforce your gender.
Then there’s the medical community. With no long term studies, puberty blockers are given to young children who “feel” they might actually be members of the opposite sex. Why any thinking adult would give purchase to an 8–year-old’s desire to “be a girl” is beyond me. They can’t even make up their mind what they want for lunch. Call me back when they’re 30. But the medical community, sensing a buck to be made in drug treatments, therapy and even conversion surgeries, is seemingly all in on this.
Gender affirming care is structured around the concept of an innate gender identity, which is understood as a deeply felt sense of maleness, femaleness, or otherwise, and can vary independent of sex (Fausto-Sterling, 2012; Hembree et al., 2017; Rafferty et al., 2018). There is no objective test nor biomarker that can confirm this subjective sense of self.
But imagine the poor doctor who doesn’t kowtow to an insistent parent’s request to make little Johnny become Jane because he feels Jane-like. The doctor and hospital don’t want to be sued for discrimination. The American Medical Association pushes an affirmation-model of care. If the child thinks he’s female, then he’s female and should be treated as such.
If you’ve read this far, good for you. Because by now, I’m certainly cancelled. I’m only stating facts, but as we know (I have a red Ferrari) facts don’t matter when you’re the loudest voice in the room.
Which is another Trump feature. He keeps saying things. At least three times. Then they’re true. Say them loudly, and they’re fact. This is an important thing in the trans movement. If you say anything FOR women’s rights, you’re branded a TERF (trans-exclusionary radical feminist). You just get yelled at. No discussion, no debate. It’s all black and white. “Trans-women are women”. Well, actually no they’re not.
Women give birth. Half of all women have been sexually assaulted in their lifetime, mainly by men. They live in fear walking down the street by themselves at night, because they might be attacked. They go along to get along because they have a lifetime of negotiating for their own safety in any and all situations, whether it be the boardroom or the bedroom.
Trans-women have none of this lived experience. Trans-women are the ultimate expression of Donald Trump’s ‘grab-em-by-the-pussy’ misogyny. Trans women have demanded entry into traditional safe spaces like women’s locker rooms and bathrooms. Now women can’t get away from men. Put on a dress, call yourself a woman (which you can do, see Bill C-16) but then push your way into a woman’s bathroom. Or on to a woman’s swim team. Or hockey team. Where your physical attributes as a man give you a size, speed and muscular advantage. Or claim discrimination because you’re a trans-woman and that woman shouldn’t have gotten the job to which you were clearly entitled. Trans-women take away from women while giving up absolutely nothing in return for the loss of the status of women.
Why is the tail wagging the dog? How did such a tiny cohort of the population get so much power? People of colour have been fighting an uphill battle for, oh, say 400 years. Women took until the 1960s to really get the feminist movement off the ground (with all due respect to Nellie McClung and the “Famous Five” to become a person first in the 1920s). Indigenous peoples have been oppressed, cheated and neglected since North America was settled. Yet trans-women suddenly have all of this power.
As usual, and I’m sorry to keep harping on this theme, but it’s all about the money (and power too).
The Epstein class doesn’t want to be seen as pedophiles. They are trying to normalize sex with minors. If little boys become little girls, it’s more palatable. Megyn Kelly, the former Fox news host, on her podcast questioned if sex with 15 year-olds was really a bad thing. Mainstreaming pedophilia allows the ruling elite to continue this practice.
Then there’s the medical and pharmaceutical industry. Gender affirming hormones is estimated to be a $2.3 billion business by 2030. Trans-women need to stay on these hormones for life. This is a piece of the pie no one is willing to give up.
A single gender-affirming surgery can range from $20K to $100K. Multiple surgeries are usually involved in the transition. Many insurance companies in the U.S. will cover this surgery, and health plans in Canada will too.
Therapists will provide counselling services for their hourly rates to help those in need with their transition.
Corporations spend millions of dollars proving how welcoming they are to the trans community. They don’t want to be sued, boycotted or otherwise suffer from bad public relations. So they toe the party line. Support for the trans community plays well with those under 30, a valuable cohort for any corporation.
LGBT groups advocate for the trans community. Corporations donate to GLAAD, the Human Rights Campaign and Stonewall, generating millions of dollars in funding for their causes. This gives them financial incentives to lobby for the trans community, even at the expense of gays and lesbians. The fight for gays and lesbians is virtually over. These organizations need causes to fight to keep their structure and power in place.
Legal advocacy groups like the ALCU file lawsuits against single sex spaces, health care restrictions and free speech laws (yes, I get the irony here). The lawsuits generate funds for their operations.
Then there’s the politics involved. In the U.S., the Left uses the trans movement to call Republicans bigots for not embracing the trans community, energizing their base. The Right uses the same strategy by questioning men in women’s sports, distracting from economic issues by fighting culture wars.
The ongoing war on women themselves, especially in the United States. Trans-women are pitted against biological women. If you’re perceived to be against trans-women, you’re labelled a TERF, to silence women who speak out for their own rights. Women end up fighting each other instead of presenting a united front against economic inequality or the patriarchy.
Roe vs Wade is a perfect example. When you change the biological category of “woman”, women’s rights get harder to defend. It was much easier to take away the right of abortion from women in the U.S. if you’re questioning what is a woman, anyway. Vocabulary is changed: “people who bleed”, “pregnant people”, “persons who lactate” often codified in law, erases women’s lived experience. This is more easily accepted because of the absurdities in our everyday life; the lies told by politicians, the recasting of history to favour those in power, and behaviour that defies logic. “Men can be pregnant”, “Women with penises” are now easier to accept because we’ve been conditioned by the firehose of other authoritarian edicts: “make Canada the 51st State”, “biggest landslide victory”, “biggest inauguration crowd ever”, “the 2020 election was stolen”, with no repercussions for the lies.
The oddest thing about this is that there has been next to no pushback, by men or women. But that also makes sense, because anyone pushing back is pushing back against a man. Or men, in this case. Trans-women bring all their privilege, misogyny and rights with them when they become a woman. They expect to be listened to, to get their own way, to not have to yield to anyone in their path. That’s how they were raised and that’s not going to change. Anyone who speaks out, doctors, teachers, administrators, politicians, will feel the full force of their wrath. And now, with Bill C-16, you can be subject to prosecution by misgendering someone.
People in general want to be seen as inclusive. Non-discriminatory. Open. Welcoming. If one tenth of one percent of the population wants to use a woman’s bathroom, what’s the harm? If you ask a man, it doesn’t affect them. It’s women’s problem. If you ask a woman, who has been conditioned to get along, to acquiesce, to demur, to negotiate for their safety, they fear physical violence if they push back against a man coming into their bathroom.
Research in the UK rates the acceptability of trans-women in women’s bathrooms is on the decline. It dropped 10 percentage points from 2016 to 2022, coinciding with the erosion of other women’s rights.
I have no issues with anyone identifying any way they want. I have no problem with anyone dressing however they want. The problem I have is the pushing into women’s spaces by men, and men giving up nothing in return. No one can tell me the net benefit to women by men in women’s spaces. The arguments go like this:
1) Women benefit from trans-women in their spaces by expanding the base for women and fostering solidarity. They are both oppressed groups and can benefit from each other’s experience. They share the struggle of misogyny, sexual violence and systemic discrimination.
But this just dilutes money and resources from women’s issues, taking away reproductive rights, female-specific violence and maternal health care, none of which trans-women need concern themselves.
2. Trans-women help break down gender roles. They challenge the traditional perception of femininity and encourage people to reject stereotypes. This liberates women from their inherent biology; that womenhood is tied to their anatomy.
But this erases women’s lived experience. Pregnancy, giving birth, menstruation are all biological differences that are part of a woman’s reality. Something with which trans-women have no experience.
3. Trans-women help reduce violence against all women. They can help create safe environments by advocating for inclusive policies for everyone. In spaces like locker rooms or bathroom, they normalize diversity and can reduce the stigma for women that don’t fit traditional beauty standards.
But biological women have a right to boundaries and comfort in locker rooms and bathrooms. Men have assaulted women forever. Just because someone identifies as a woman, that shouldn’t give them the right to women’s spaces.
I could go on. I already have.
“So Paul, WTF have you written this screed?”
Because, if men don’t start speaking out about other men co-opting women’s spaces, we have no idea where this will end. Or even if it will.
First, they came for the pronouns. Then they came for the bathrooms and locker rooms. Then they came for women’s sports. Then they came for the medical procedures.
Like the Trump administration, there is no bottom. It’ll just keep going. At some point, for the sake of all women, it has to stop.
